A very special (and technically challenging) brew rolled out nationally last week. So special in fact, we've enlisted our Chief Brewer Chris Willcock (AKA Bones) to talk through the details.
Introducing.... 4 Pines Ultra Low. For Beer Lovers.
In your words Bones, what is 4 Pines Ultra-Low?
Ultra Low is another great brew brought to you by the passionate team at 4 Pines. With a soft palate, fresh hop notes and less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, it’s a great drink for here, there and everywhere.
Who do you think will be drinking 4P Ultra Low?
That remains to be seen but my wife is the biggest culprit at the moment! Every time I put a six pack in the fridge it seems to rapidly disappear.
What are your thoughts on the recent rise in non-alc drinks? Are they here to stay?
With improving technology its not surprising that non-alc drinks are on the rise. They offer a new diversity of ‘adult’ flavours, often with high quality ingredients and lower calories.
How long did it take you to develop from concept to final product?
There’s a few generally-accepted ways of producing non-alc beers each with their own strengths and weaknesses. We chose to explore a different pathway taking the concept back to brewing fundamentals. This exploration took us 6 months to get from concept to consumer.
What sets apart the brewing process of 4 Pines Ultra Low from other low alc beverages and beers?
Our Ultra Low is brewed the 4 Pines way, with the same ingredients and equipment we’ve used to brew all of our multi award-winning beers. We chose not to sweeten it like some brewers may and we don’t tunnel pasteurise, which would dull the fresh flavours.
Who were the main brewers involved in the development of this liquid?
I have to give big credit to Simon Lew who performed an extensive amount of research while designing the product and process, and to our young James Davidson who helped bring Simon’s ideas to life in our pilot brewery. Well said Bones, cheers to that!
