1% FOR THE PLANET – LANDCARE AUSTRALIA AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM
Beer is an agricultural product, and ultimately, what makes a good agricultural product is the soil it grows in. No soil means no hops or malt, which means no beer, and that’s not a world we want to live in.
We rely on good soil and good people to brew good beer! So, we asked Landcare Australia to have a chat with a hop farm in our supply chain – Ryefield Hops in Bemboka, NSW to find a way to help them continue to grow beautiful bines!
Landcare delivered and with a donation provided by us, a project has been created that will support biodiversity and sustainable agricultural outcomes along approximately 4 hectares of riparian habitat on an eroded creek line at Ryefield Hops farm. For all those like us who need a little explanation, basically, Landcare will be planting native seedlings along a wildlife habitat found along the banks of a creek line on Ryefield Hops’ property!
We were lucky enough to go down to Bemboka to start phase one of the native plant revegetation, a team from 4 Pines joined enthusiastic team members from Landcare Australia, Ryefield Hops Farm and the Far South Coast Landcare Association for a planting day resulting in 1,000 native plants getting into the ground . The fun doesn’t stop there as another 2,000 native plants will be planted in mid-2022.
This project will help make the farm drought resilient and secure a hoppy future for Ryefield Hops, 4 Pines and other breweries too!
